At the recent Data Centre World event, many of our visitors were asking about the pricing plans for SMARTset. So in this post, we’re going to discuss the 3 different ways you can pay for SMARTset and explain the benefits of each option. This information will help you to choose the payment plan that’s right for your organisation.
Subscribe to SMARTset SaaS
If you would rather pay for SMARTset out of your operational expenditure (OpEx) budget, we have two subscription models available. The first, and lowest cost, is SMARTset SaaS (Software as a Service), where SMARTset is installed on a Third Party hosting service, such as AWS. With this virtual solution, you pay an ongoing subscription fee for the software and support.
The benefits of subscribing to SMARTset SaaS:
- Cost is spread out over longer period
- Lowest subscription cost for SMARTset
- Updates are installed by 4NG as and when released
- You have no responsibility for hardware maintenance
- Support provided throughout duration of the subscription
- Easy to scale up or down – just pay for what you need.
With cloud-based services, there are usually two key concerns – security and data loss. For security, SMARTset uses standard web practices within a single tenancy model to keep your data secure and safe. Protection against data loss is provided by our hosting service, and there are many different levels of backup and redundancy available.
Of course, cloud-based solutions aren’t suitable for all businesses, so we also offer a non-cloud subscription service: subscribe to a SMARTset appliance.
Subscribe to SMARTset running on a 4NG Appliance
With our SMARTset appliance service, you can subscribe to SMARTset and run it on hardware leased from 4NG. This is a great option if you want SMARTset on a subscription model, but don’t want to use cloud-based SaaS.
The appliance subscription model provides SMARTset software hosted on a server in your own corporate network. It offers similar benefits to SMARTset SaaS, but without the use of cloud technology:
- Cost is an operational expense and spread out over longer period
- No use of cloud technology – SMARTset runs on 4NG hardware on your site
- Easier to manage security and communications
- Updates are installed by 4NG as and when released
- You have no responsibility for hardware maintenance
- Support provided throughout duration of the subscription
- Easy to scale up or down – just pay for what you need.
Buy SMARTset and Install on Your Hardware
If the overall cost of implementing SMARTset is your primary concern, buying SMARTset instead of subscribing may be the best choice. Although there is an initial ‘up front’ cost, the total cost is less than a subscription model.
With this model, you pay for SMARTset and a maintenance plan from your capital expenditure budget (CapEx), and the software is installed on your hardware. The benefits of this approach are:
- Capital expenditure item, so does not affect profit and loss.
- Greater control. You own a version of SMARTset and it runs locally on your hardware.
- No reliance on cloud technology.
- SMARTset runs on hardware on site, so is more resilient to external influences.
- Easier to handle security concerns.
- Support and updates provided by 4NG during the maintenance contract.
